The Pediatric Surgery Department was established by Yonsei Medical Center in 1975 as the first of its kind in the nation, and is Korea’s only institution specialized in surgeries for biliary obstruction, choledochal cyst and imperforate anus.
Adopting cutting edge surgical techniques, it has conducted robotic and laparoscopic surgeries that leave almost no postoperative scars, and also developed slide tracheoplasty, a surgical technique for congenital tracheal stenosis.
At the department, treatment of congenital deformity found in neonates (e.g., imperforate anus, oesophageal obstruction, intestinal obstruction, congenital megacolon and diaphragmatic hernia) and medical care specialized in pediatric dyschezia and malignant tumor are conducted.
For cases of prenatal diagnosis with abnormality, fetus or postnatal surgery is conducted in close cooperation with the Uterology Department.
Day surgery is conducted for hernias commonly found in children, in order to reduce the burden of hospitalization.
